Lady Tremaine : her looks

Animated movie

Lady Tremaine has the look of a rather elderly but well-preserved woman. Her face is somewhat wrinkled and she has grey hair. Nevertheless, she is presented as a character who takes particular care of her appearance. 

Indeed, his elaborate outfit consists of : 

• of a long burgundy dress,
• earrings in the shape of orbs,
• a gold brooch,
• a collar,
• and a green ring.

Moreover, she combines the colour of her varnish (lavender) with that of her sleeves: a sign of real care for her appearance. 

Her face is stern and hard. Her large green eyes give her a fierce and evil side, especially when she is angry. 

Live-action

In the live-action version, Lady Tremaine, played by Cate Blanchett, is younger than in the animated version. She is a beautiful woman, refined and elegant. She takes care with her clothes and styles her red hair with distinction.

The character of Lady Tremaine has no magical powers. Nevertheless, she draws her strength from her abilities as a shrewd strategist. Ambitious and cruel, she does not hesitate to take over Cinderella’s estate after her father’s death and to relegate the girl to the status of a servant in her own house. 

Her ultimate goal is to marry off her daughters to good men in order to achieve a high social position. She is not a mother who cares about her own daughters’ needs, but she is evil and jealous of Cinderella. This can be seen in Cinderella 3 : A Twist in time, where Anastasia’s wishes and dreams are of no value to her. 

Live-action

In the live-action film, the character of Lady Tremaine seems more nuanced. She appears, in fact, more human and credible. She draws her malice from the various misfortunes that have befallen her: in particular the death of her first husband, whom she sincerely loved.
