It was on March 16 that the last flight took off in the direction of the Moon of Endor, via the Endor Express. After 24 years of loyal service, Rex, our etarnal ‘first time pilot’, cashed in his retirement pot and the Star Speeders 300 were sent to the garage. The airline is planning on renewing its fleet with brand new Star Speeders 1000 and offer new destinations (with, we hope, the help of pilots who are slightly more experienced); however, flights will not take off once again until a year from now, the time it will take to train new pilots on the new aircrafts and to carry on refurbishments in the Astroport.
Disneyland Paris took this opportunity, before the long closure, to offer the member of the Shareholders Club and the owners of some Annual Passports an event called “Last Call for the Endor Express”.
The event started with a conference at Vidéopolis, called “STAR TOURS : merci et bon voyage” hosted by Laurent Cayuela, Disneyland Paris Imagineering.
After revealing a few numbers about the attractions, he welcomes Patrice Girod, Star Wars specialist with Lucasfilm approval. Together, they discussed the origins of Star Tours: they recall it is the second collaboration with Disney for Lucasfilm after “Captain Eo”, that Rex was created by George Lucas, who was opposed to the addition of the Death Star scene. Fun fact: the extras in the film are actually part of the crew who worked on the sets and models!

Luq explains that he came to the studio to record Rex’s voice without having ever seen the film! He only discovered it in 1992 when he rode the attraction with his kids. The partnership between Disney and Luq Hamet doesnt stop at Star Tours, indeed he also lent his voice to Roger Rabbit in “Who framed Roger Rabbit”; and also worked on “The Little Mermaid” and “Atlantis”. Outside Disney, he was the French voice of Marty Mc Fly in “Back to the Future”
Up next was a little game where Laurent Cayuela makes the audience guess quotes by famous characters.
The conference ends with an emtional video where current and former Cast Members of Star Tours honor the attraction:

Guests are then directed to the Star Wars attraction in oder to fly one last time towards the Moon of Endor. One last chance to enjoy the decor of the queue :

After the very last flight, guests are gathered in front of Star Traders to witness the do called « Astroport closing procedures », carried on by the droid S9-T2 from the Star Traders roof.
First off, Cast Members exit through the main gate and walk to Star Traders, cheered by the crowd, for the “security check”.
Then, Bay 1 to 6 were closed and the repair chain was put out of service.
